About a year ago I was driving to my girlfriends house and saw an old battered chiminea on the side of the read. I had been after one for a while, but even cheap ones where £50 plus (which I really couldn’t justify spending).
This one had a bit of the front missing, no inside grill, and looked a bit ‘rustic.’ I knocked on the door of the nearby house and asked the owner if he was throwing it out. He was, but said it was broken and useless. I told him a broken chiminea is better than no chiminea.
I got it home and played a jigsaw game with the broken pieces, managing to get it back in one. I broke two drill heads trying to bolt the thing back together before giving up and asking to borrow my dads industrial drill. The sound of a drill through cast iron is horrendous, but it worked, and it’s been on my plot keeping me warm ever since.
On mothers day we went to Wellingpool garden centre for a walk around. Lo and behold there’s my exact chiminea … With a £145 pice tag attached!
I think I love it all the more now …
